ASUU Issues 14-Day Ultimatum to FG Over Unresolved Issues
Reported by David Joshua | Sele Media Africa
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria, demanding urgent resolution of long-standing issues affecting public universities and lecturers nationwide.
The union, in a statement released on Monday after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, accused the government of reneging on several agreements, including those related to unpaid academic allowances, delayed salary payments, and the failure to implement the renegotiated 2009 FG-ASUU agreement.
ASUU also raised concerns over the neglect of university infrastructure and the non-release of revitalization funds, despite repeated promises by the government to address the decay in tertiary institutions.
“We are tired of waiting endlessly while our members suffer under worsening economic conditions. If nothing is done within the next 14 days, we will be left with no option but to take appropriate industrial action,” the statement read.
This development has sparked concerns among students and parents who fear another potential shutdown of academic activities across Nigerian public universities.
