BREAKING: Ambode Declares 2027 Guber Ambition, Rallies Support for Tinubu’s Re-Election
By Sele Media Africa | #PoliticsNigeria
Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Lagos State Governorship Election, while also throwing his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Ambode made this known during a PVC sensitisation programme held in Badagry, Lagos. Although he was not physically present, his message was conveyed by Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, the Director-General of the Tinubu-Ambo Support Group.
The former governor emphasized the need for Lagosians to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the coming elections, describing it as essential to participatory democracy.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proven his capacity to lead this country with vision and courage,” Ambode stated.
“I call on Lagosians and Nigerians at large to ensure he gets a second term in 2027 so we can all continue to benefit from his progressive leadership.”
Ambode Eyes Lagos Seat Again
Ambode, who governed Lagos between 2015 and 2019 before being edged out of the APC ticket by incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said his renewed ambition is borne out of a desire to build on past gains and respond to present challenges in Lagos.
“I am offering myself to serve Lagos once again, with a renewed vision to tackle emerging needs and enhance inclusive development,” Ambode reportedly said through his representative.
The move marks a significant political comeback for Ambode, who had maintained a low political profile since leaving office.
Tinubu-Ambo Alliance Strengthens
The sensitisation campaign also highlighted the growing synergy between Tinubu’s loyalists and Ambode’s camp. Dr. Bamigbade noted:
“Our message is clear: no PVC, no voting. We believe both President Tinubu and Mr. Ambode represent continuity, progress, and people-focused governance.”
With both figures aiming for significant political milestones in 2027, the joint support strategy may signal deeper reconciliation within Lagos APC, previously marred by internal rifts.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, all eyes will be on how this evolving alliance reshapes Lagos’ political landscape.
