Boko Haram Kills Two Immigration Officers in Monguno Attack
Monguno, Borno State – In a tragic incident on Friday, September 5, 2025, suspected Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a patrol of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) near Monguno, resulting in the deaths of two officers. The attack occurred along the Monguno–Baga Road, a region notorious for insurgent activities.
According to local security sources, the officers were conducting routine surveillance when they were ambushed by armed militants. The assailants opened fire, leading to the immediate deaths of the two NIS personnel. The attackers reportedly fled the scene before reinforcements could arrive.
This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria. Despite ongoing military operations, the group continues to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians alike. In recent months, similar assaults have been reported in the region, highlighting the challenges faced by security agencies in curbing the insurgency.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators, and the NIS has vowed to enhance security measures to protect its personnel. The agency also extended its condolences to the families of the slain officers and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders.
