Bodies of 2 Missing Soldiers Recovered in South Kashmir

In a solemn conclusion to a five‑day search, the bodies of two Indian Army paratroopers, Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, have been recovered from the dense Gadole forest area in Kokernag, South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. [1]

The pair went missing on October 6, 2025, during a combing operation in the snowbound forests, when their unit encountered a severe snowstorm and communications were lost. [2]

Security forces, including the Chinar Corps, deployed helicopters, drones, and ground teams to scour the terrain amid challenging weather—two feet of snow, heavy fog, and freezing temperatures — in the hope of locating the missing soldiers. [3]

The first body was discovered on October 9, with the second retrieved on October 10 from nearby positions within the forest. [4]
Officials noted that weapons and rucksacks were recovered along with the remains, and preliminary assessments suggest that the soldiers likely succumbed to hypothermia under extreme conditions. [4]

The Chinar Corps has paid rich tribute to the fallen soldiers, stating their “courage and dedication will forever inspire us.”
The recovery operation is now considered complete. Authorities are continuing investigations into the precise circumstances surrounding their deaths and preparing efforts to return the remains to their families.
