Berom Youths Moulder Association Condemns Deadly Bandit Attack on Gako Village, Rim Community

Riyom, Plateau State — October 4, 2025
The Berom Youths Moulder Association (BYM) has strongly condemned a fatal attack on Gako village, Rim Community, Riyom LGA, which occurred Friday, October 3rd, at about 8:55 pm. The assault claimed the life of Mr. Bulus Dongo, aged 65, leaving behind a grieving wife and six dependents.
“The bandits … crept into the village through corn farmlands … and opened gunfire at the deceased person, who died on the spot,” the statement from BYM reads.
The group alleges that the attack followed prior alerts warning that villages in Rim and its environs were likely to be attacked—and claims the assailants intended “to mar the atmosphere of euphoria” surrounding President Tinubu’s condolence visit to Plateau State.
Expressing deep outrage, the BYM decried “the aggression perpetually waged by the armed Fulani … who have vowed to bring our people to extinction as well as abject impoverishment.”
They also call on the Plateau State House of Assembly to immediately initiate legislation banning open grazing, citing threats to food security.
“We … call on residents of hamlets, villages and communities to intensify vigilance and report to security any suspicious movement,” the association urges.
The BYM’s condemnation is signed by Bature Iliya Adazaram (Secretary-General) and Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri (National President).
Context & Security Situation
Riyom LGA has seen multiple violent attacks in recent months. For instance:
• A similar raid in Wereng-Camp claimed several lives earlier in 2025. [1]
• In Tahoss, Riyom, gunmen killed at least 20 people in a separate attack. [2]
These incidents highlight the deeply entrenched security challenges in Plateau, with communities regularly coming under assault.
What to Watch
• Whether the Plateau State Legislature will act on BYM’s demand for open-grazing legislation.
• How security agencies will respond—whether increased patrols, intelligence operations, or local militias.
• The broader impact on the Rim, Tahoss, Jol, Kwi, Wereng, Rahoss, Kogo, and neighboring communities already under repeated attacks.
