Benue Attack: Three Police Officers Killed, Seven Missing – FPRO
Reported by David Joshua
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed a deadly ambush on its Tactical Teams in Benue State, resulting in the death of three officers and seven others currently missing.
Speaking on the incident, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the officers were attacked while responding to a distress call in a volatile area of the state.
According to Adejobi, the attack took place in Logo Local Government Area, a region that has witnessed repeated episodes of violence, often linked to banditry and communal clashes.
“The Tactical Team was deployed on a special assignment to ensure the protection of lives and property. Unfortunately, they were ambushed by unknown gunmen. Three of our brave officers were killed, and seven are still unaccounted for,” he stated.
The Police spokesman said reinforcement teams have been deployed, and search operations are ongoing to locate and rescue the missing officers.
He also vowed that the Nigeria Police would intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack, warning that such violent acts against law enforcement would not go unpunished. “We will not be deterred by these cowardly attacks. The Force remains committed to restoring peace and order in Benue and across Nigeria,” Adejobi added.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reportedly ordered a full-scale investigation and expressed condolences to the families of the slain officers.
This latest incident adds to the growing concerns about the safety of security personnel in Nigeria, particularly in conflict-prone regions.
