ASUU Threatens Nationwide Strike After One-Month Ultimatum!
Reported by Marian Opeyemi Fasesan | Sele Media Africa
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, threatening to resume a nationwide strike if ongoing disputes are not resolved within a month.
“If the government fails to act within the given time, we will be left with no choice but to take necessary industrial action,” ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke stated.
Key Issues:
- Non-implementation of past agreements, including funding for revitalisation.
- Withheld salaries due to previous strikes.
- Concerns over IPPIS and the need for a more university-friendly payment platform.
Why It Matters:
- A renewed strike would disrupt academic calendars and worsen education delays.
- Prolonged industrial actions have long-term effects on students and university operations.
- Dialogue breakdown could spark wider unrest in the tertiary education sector.
What to Watch:
- Government-ASUU negotiations before the ultimatum expires.
- Reactions from students, university administrations, and NANS.
- Possible mediation by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
