Arewa Youths Warn Against Politicizing National Security, Urge Support for Service Chiefs
The Arewa Youth Assembly has cautioned Nigerians against politicizing national security issues, emphasizing the importance of unity and support for the nation’s Service Chiefs. In a statement released on September 11, 2025, and signed by Publicity Secretary Aliyu Muhammad, the group expressed full confidence in the leadership of the Service Chiefs, highlighting their pivotal role in maintaining peace, security, and stability across the nation.
The Assembly condemned what it described as “serial blackmail by unpatriotic and unscrupulous elements” seeking personal or financial gain at the expense of Nigeria’s security. They warned that sudden changes in the country’s security architecture could disrupt ongoing efforts against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insurgency.
The Arewa Youths commended the Service Chiefs for their achievements, including successful counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, maritime patrols in the Niger Delta, intelligence-led crackdowns on criminal networks, and the neutralization of key commanders from Boko Haram and ISWAP. They also noted the clearance of bandit hideouts in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Niger states, reduction in crude oil theft, and the rescue of kidnapped individuals.
Emphasizing the importance of civil-military relations, the group highlighted community development projects and medical outreach programs in conflict-affected areas that have fostered trust and cooperation with local populations.
The statement urged Nigerians to remain patriotic, united, and supportive of the security forces, emphasizing that public backing and adequate funding are critical to sustaining the successes achieved by the Service Chiefs. “Rather than call for their sack, our collective responsibility must be invested in supporting and encouraging these gallant Security Chiefs who continuously sacrifice for our peace and security,” the statement read.
This call from the Arewa Youth Assembly comes amid discussions and debates on the nation’s security strategies and leadership, underscoring the need for a non-partisan approach to national security matters.
