Apology & Clarification: NPFL Did Not Sign Sponsorship Deal with Betano
Sele Media Africa sincerely apologizes to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Betano, and the general public for publishing an unverified report claiming that the NPFL had signed a ₦5.76 billion sponsorship deal with Betano.
Upon internal review and after a direct call with NPFL Chairman, as well as Mr. Andrew Ekejiuba, a senior official within the league’s structure, we have confirmed that no such deal currently exists. Both officials clearly refuted the claim, describing the report as entirely false and misleading.
The story, originally written by one of our in-house journalists, was published prematurely without proper editorial clearance or verification from official sources — a clear violation of our editorial standards and professional ethics.
As a responsible media organization, we take full accountability for this oversight. We are already reviewing our internal processes to ensure that all future publications, especially those concerning high-profile institutions, undergo strict fact-checking and editorial review.
We have since taken down the original report and replaced it with a corrected version, stating the facts and clarifying the misinformation.
Sele Media Africa remains committed to truthful, ethical, and accountable journalism. We deeply regret any confusion or reputational damage this may have caused to the NPFL, Betano, or our readers.
Signed,
