In a press statement signed by the Giwa Media Team (GMT) on Friday, September 5, 2025, Ambassador Chris Giwa, PhD, expressed deep concern and condemnation over the destruction of hectares of farmlands in Nyerwei and Rayiri villages, located in Fan District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Describing the attack as “wicked, callous, and a clear act of economic sabotage,” Amb. Giwa decried the continuous assault on farming communities, warning that such coordinated destruction threatens the survival and livelihood of innocent citizens.
He noted that this latest incident follows similar attacks in Rim community, Riyom LGA, raising fears of a planned pattern of aggression aimed at crippling the hardworking Berom people who rely on agriculture for sustenance.
While commending security agencies for their ongoing efforts, Amb. Giwa emphasized the need for sustained protection of lives, properties, and ancestral lands. He urged the relevant authorities to apprehend and prosecute those responsible without delay, to serve justice and discourage future attacks.
Amb. Giwa also called for urgent humanitarian support to cushion the economic losses suffered by the victims, and increased security deployment to other vulnerable communities across Plateau State.
In his concluding remarks, he extended his heartfelt sympathy to the Berom nation and all affected families, offering prayers for God’s intervention, lasting peace, and the protection of all communities in Plateau State and Nigeria.
