ADC Declares Rhodes-Vivour as Champion of the Electorate
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially welcomed Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, into its ranks, lauding him as a “champion of the electorate” and a pivotal figure in the party’s vision for a unified opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At a formal induction ceremony held in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos, ADC leaders and supporters gathered to celebrate Rhodes-Vivour’s defection. The event, which faced initial disruptions due to security concerns, was marked by speeches emphasizing the need for a consolidated opposition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming elections.
In his address, Rhodes-Vivour articulated his reasons for joining the ADC, stating, “This coalition is about rescuing Nigeria. Since the 2023 elections, I have consistently maintained that the opposition cannot afford to remain fragmented. To unseat those who wield power through thuggery, violence, and intimidation, we must build a robust alliance that reflects the will of the people.” [1]
ADC’s Lagos State Chairman, George Ashiru, echoed these sentiments, asserting, “We are not affirming one man; we are affirming a movement. What Rhodes-Vivour represents is the leadership of a movement that shook Lagos in the last election.” [2]
The ADC’s endorsement of Rhodes-Vivour underscores the party’s commitment to fostering a broad-based coalition aimed at promoting inclusivity and democratic values. As the political landscape evolves, the ADC positions itself as a formidable force advocating for systemic change and representing the aspirations of the Nigerian electorate.
