ADC Accuses APC of Orchestrating Violence at Lagos Church Rally
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating an attack on a church rally held in Lagos, likening the ruling party’s actions to those of a terrorist organization.
The incident occurred during a rally organized by the ADC at Lion Field in Alimosho Local Government Area. The event, aimed at welcoming Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi and Lagos governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, was disrupted by suspected political thugs who invaded the venue, causing chaos and inflicting injuries on attendees. The ADC alleges that these assailants are supporters of the APC. [1]
In response to the attack, the ADC issued a statement condemning the violence and accusing the APC of undermining democratic principles. The party’s spokesperson stated, “The APC’s actions are reminiscent of terrorist tactics, aiming to instill fear and suppress opposition voices.”
The Lagos State chapter of the APC has denied any involvement in the incident. APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo dismissed the allegations, attributing the disruption to internal conflicts within the opposition. He stated, “The opposition is certainly not helping our democracy to grow by accusing the ruling party to be the cause of their internal rifts.” [1]
The ADC has called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the attack thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice. The party emphasized the importance of safeguarding democratic processes and ensuring the safety of all political participants.
This incident underscores the escalating political tensions in Nigeria as the 2027 general elections approach, highlighting the urgent need for peaceful and fair political engagement.
