Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its urban regeneration agenda, dismissing online criticisms as “uninformed” and insisting that major housing and infrastructure projects are progressing on schedule.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the governor revealed that over 150 out of 200 planned housing units have already been completed under the state’s Urban Renewal and Affordable Housing Scheme.
“Our delivery is evidence-based. The facts are on ground, not on Twitter,” Abiodun said, responding to recent social media criticism alleging neglect and delays.
Key Points:
- The Ibara GRA project includes modern residential units, road upgrades, drainage systems, and green spaces.
- The governor added that similar urban renewal efforts are ongoing in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, and Ota.
- He assured residents that compensation for displaced individuals and property owners is being handled transparently.
Why It Matters:
- The project is central to the administration’s broader vision of making Ogun a “smart, livable, and sustainable” state.
- It reflects the push for regional development to reduce pressure on Lagos and attract investment into Ogun.
- The remarks show growing tension between government policy implementation and public perception, often shaped by online commentary.
Abiodun concluded by urging citizens to visit project sites personally rather than rely on “misleading narratives.”
