Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved a significant increase in the monthly allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, raising it from ₦4,000 to ₦50,000.
Speaking at a government function in Umuahia, Otti said the move was part of his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and appreciation of corps members’ contributions to the state’s development.
“We are increasing their allowance to ₦50,000 monthly to motivate them and show appreciation for their service,” he stated.
Why It Matters:
- This represents one of the highest corps member stipends offered by any Nigerian state government.
- The move is expected to boost morale among NYSC members, particularly those posted to rural or underserved areas.
- It aligns with Otti’s broader reform agenda, which prioritizes worker welfare and public service motivation.
