A tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Four Corner Junction along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. A trailer, reportedly belonging to the Dangote Group, collided with multiple vehicles, resulting in the deaths of several individuals, including members of a family. [1]Details of the Incident:• The first accident happened around 9 a.m. when a Howo truck carrying cement from Aba to Abuja collided with a Toyota Corolla attempting to overtake another vehicle. A Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, both reportedly driving against traffic, were also involved. The impact caused a fire that engulfed the Corolla, killing all five occupants. One passenger in the mini bus also died at the scene.• Later that day, around 3 p.m., another accident occurred on the same expressway. A Sino truck, also laden with cement and reportedly driving against traffic, rammed into a tricycle, crushing its four occupants, who later died in the hospital. The Enugu State Police Command confirmed both accidents, stating that a total of 10 people lost their lives, and 10 others were injured and taken to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, for treatment. [1] As of now, the Dangote Group has not issued an official statement regarding the Enugu crash. However, the company recently expressed grief over a separate incident involving one of its trucks that led to the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna. In that statement, Dangote Group emphasized its commitment to safety and accountability. [1]These incidents highlight the ongoing issue of road safety in Nigeria, where road accidents remain a significant public health concern due to factors like speeding, poor road conditions, and vehicle maintenance failures.
