JOS NIGERIA _ A petroleum and cooking gas fuel station located along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos ,the Plateau state capital was engulfed by fire on Thursday morning, triggering panic among residents and motorists .The affected filling station, situated within a short distance from the Jos South Local Government Secretariat,was reportedly ablaze with flames starting around the major underground petroleum discharge tank, raising concerns over the potential scale of damage.Eyewitnesses said there were no firefighters at the scene at the early stage of the incident, as staff of the filling station were seen making frantic efforts to contain the raging flames. “We just saw the fire this morning at a filing station popularly known as Chill Cherry,”a passer-by, who identified himself as Maman, said.Customers and passers-by reportedly fled the area in fear for their lives, given that the station also operates a cooking gas outlet.”I saw two emergency responder vehicles moving fast to the area and I think their prompt response underscores the growing synergy between federal and state fire service agencies in managing emergencies and safeguarding lives and property across the state.I hope they will achieve their objective and contain the fire “,a customer who escaped from the scene added The spokesperson of the Federal Fire Service in Plateau state, CSF EE Anzolo, confirmed the incident, saying “Men of Plateau State Fire Service are on ground to handle the situation.”The cause of the inferno had not yet been ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
