3,433 Persons Killed in Road Crashes This Year – Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)!

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has revealed that approximately 3,433 individuals have lost their lives in road traffic crashes across Nigeria so far this year, raising fresh alarm over the nation’s road‑safety crisis.
The data, disclosed by the Corps during the launch of its annual “Road Traffic Crash Victims Remembrance Week”, covers incidents recorded up to a recent cut‑off and indicates a troubling trend of high fatality rates despite ongoing safety campaigns. The figure underscores that Nigeria continues to lose thousands of lives on its roads each year.
The FRSC attributed the bulk of these fatalities to human factors such as speeding, driver fatigue, overloading of vehicles, and poor vehicle maintenance. A spokesperson further warned that while some progress has been made in reducing overall crash incidents, the rate at which lives are lost remains unacceptably high.
The corps urged all motorists to exercise caution — especially during night travel — and called on state and local governments to prioritise road‑safety infrastructure, enforce traffic laws more strictly, and invest in public‑education programmes.
