2027: With Sen. Akanbi, Oyo State’s Future Is Secured Owuye
Ibadan Political analyst Adekunle Owuye has expressed confidence in Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, saying that Oyo State’s future is secure under his leadership as the 2027 election approaches. Owuye described Senator Akanbi as a “tested and trusted leader” whose extensive experience in politics and public service sets him apart in the state’s competitive landscape. Owuye pointed out that Sen. Akanbi has held key political positions most notably in the 8th National Assembly where he was recognized for his active legislative role, strong advocacy for grassroots development, and effective constituency‑based projects. Before his senatorial stint, Akanbi served in the Federal House of Representatives in 1992 and later held strategic state roles, including Special Adviser on Industry and Economic Matters under late Governor Lam Adesina. These roles, according to Owuye, helped shape his policy insights and ability to manage state affairs. Owuye also recalled Senator Akanbi’s leadership in state development programs, such as chairing the Poverty Eradication Program (LAMARP) and the Special Projects Committee, as well as being Executive Vice Chairman of the Oyo State Planning Commission. The Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi Foundation (RAAF), an NGO founded by Senator Akanbi, was cited as part of his ongoing service to Oyo State, carrying out free health services, scholarships, youth empowerment, and other community‑focused interventions. As political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 elections, Owuye’s endorsement of Senator Akanbi is seen as part of growing public demand for leadership grounded in track record rather than rhetoric. For many citizens and analysts, what makes Sen. Akanbi stand out is not just the number of positions he has held, but his performance in them his consistent engagement with communities and measurable results. Owuye’s statement underscores a broader conversation in Oyo State politics about credible leadership, results, and continuity in governance.
