The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has urged corps members undergoing orientation to respect the customs and cultural norms of their host communities, be punctual in carrying out their duties, and manage their finances wisely throughout their service year.
General Nafiu gave the advice while addressing corps members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One at orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states. He stressed that observing local customs and maintaining good conduct would enhance the corps members’ experience as ambassadors of national unity and service across Nigeria.
In his remarks, the NYSC boss commended the young graduates for answering the call to national service and urged them to remain resourceful and disciplined at their places of primary assignment. According to him, these qualities would reflect positively on the NYSC scheme while supporting the personal growth and socio-economic contribution of corps members to their host communities.
General Nafiu also emphasized the need for prudent financial management, advising corps members to make wise use of their monthly allowances to sustain themselves during and beyond the service year.
The address reflects the NYSC leadership’s continued commitment to promoting cultural tolerance, discipline, and national unity among Nigerian youths—core objectives of the Scheme since its establishment in 1973. (NYSC Official Website)
