Reported by David Joshua |Sele Media Africa

High Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, the Commander of the Osun State Amotekun Corps, narrowly escaped death on Monday night after being ambushed by suspected gunmen in Osogbo, sources confirm.

What Happened

  • The attack occurred at about 10:05 pm along Ikirun Road, opposite Charity Hotel, Osogboโ€”shortly after Omoyele departed from Amotekun headquarters to return home. [1]
  • According to Amotekunโ€™s public relations officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, Omoyele was driving alone when gunmen in a vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire. His car was reportedly riddled with bullets. [2]
  • Despite being hit, Omoyele allegedly kept driving through the hail of bullets until he could escape to safety. [3]
  • He was conveyed to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment under protective watch, with sources describing his condition as stable. [1] Additional Developments
  • Later that night, about 15 masked, armed men allegedly stormed Omoyeleโ€™s private residence in what appears to be a coordinated follow-up attack. [3]
  • Those assailants reportedly arrived in a Hilux van and a Toyota Highlander SUV, heightening speculation that the attempt was premeditated and well-resourced. [3]
  • No group has claimed responsibility yet, and the motive remains unclear. Investigations have been handed over to the Ota-Efun Police Division in Osogbo. [1]

Why It Matters

  • The attack sends a chilling message: even high-ranking security officials are vulnerable to targeted violence in the state.
  • It underscores escalating insecurity and the boldness of criminal elements operating with impunity.
  • The incident may prompt increased security measures, review of routes, and tighter protection protocols for security leaders.
