The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Yola Operations Office, has launched an emergency response following devastating flash floods that swept through 13 communities in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas of Adamawa State on Tuesday.
The heavy rains, which caused widespread destruction, left many residents stranded, homes submerged, and properties damaged. In swift response, NEMA activated a search, rescue, and evacuation operation, working in close coordination with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), local security agencies, and community volunteers.
According to officials, hundreds of affected residents were safely evacuated to higher ground and temporary shelters, while efforts continue to reach remote areas cut off by rising water levels.
“Our priority is to ensure no life is lost. We are assessing the damage and will provide relief support to the displaced,” said a NEMA official during the joint operation.
Preliminary assessments reveal significant damage to farmlands, homes, and public infrastructure. Schools and religious centers have also been repurposed as temporary shelters for evacuees.
