A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja, has sentenced a former legislative aide and banker, Mr Goni Yilkan, to eight years imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining N120.58 million under false pretences.
Justice Usman Na’abba handed down the verdict on Monday after Yilkan was found guilty of using fake documents and impersonation to defraud unsuspecting victims over a period of time while parading as a financial consultant and political insider.
The prosecution, led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), told the court that Yilkan misled investors by promising access to government contracts and funding opportunities. Upon investigation, it was discovered the promises were fake and the funds were diverted for personal use.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of all assets traced to the convict and mandated full restitution to the victims.
