Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has officially appointed Muhammad Musa as the pioneer Provost of the newly established Kauran Gwandu College of Midwifery Science, Ambursa. The appointment was conveyed through a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Suwaiba Salihu, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare training and improve maternal health services in the state.
According to the official announcement, the appointment takes immediate effect and is aimed at providing leadership during the formative stage of the college’s development. The state government views the institution as a critical tool for addressing manpower shortages and improving healthcare delivery, particularly maternal and child health outcomes across Kebbi communities.
Healthcare experts and stakeholders have welcomed the appointment, stressing that quality midwifery training is essential for expanding access to maternal healthcare, reducing mortality rates, and achieving improved health outcomes.
As the pioneer Provost, Musa is expected to focus on establishing strong academic structures, recruiting qualified faculty, and fostering strategic collaborations to position the college as a centre of excellence in midwifery education and contribute meaningfully to healthcare development in northern Nigeria.
